Find answers to some of the most common questions

There are three levels of EV charging: Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3. In general terms, the higher the level, the greater the output power and the faster your new vehicle will be charged.

Level 1: Level 1 charging is when you connect your EV to the socket using a standard alternating current plug. Since a standard household socket only provides a maximum of 2.3 kW, charging through a Level 1 charger is the slowest way to charge an EV, offering only 6 to 8 kilometres of range per hour. As there is no communication between the socket and the vehicle, this method is not only slow but can also be dangerous for your safety and your vehicle, which is why we do not recommend it.

It is the usual option in most households. Any standard alternating current charging station that can be found mounted on a wall, on a post or standing on the ground. Level 2 charging stations usually deliver between 3.4 kW and 22 kW and are commonly found in residential and public car parks, companies, and commercial locations. With the maximum output of 22 kW, one hour of charging will provide approximately 120 km of range to your battery.

Level 3 charging stations can deliver more energy, more quickly, which makes them ideal for short-stop locations such as service stations and fleet depots. Charging times vary between different vehicles and output power; however, in general terms, Level 3 chargers can charge a vehicle in minutes, instead of hours for Level 2 or days for Level 1 charging stations.

On average, depending on the charging levels:

  • Level 1 (AC): 10h–40h

  • Level 2 (AC): 1h–20h

  • Level 3 (DC): 7min–2h

However, this will vary depending on the size of the vehicle’s battery, the charging capacity, and other external factors such as weather conditions.

It depends on many variables and, in principle, the most economical option is to charge it at home. As an approximate guide:

  • Home charging: €3 – €14

  • Public charging: €7 – €26

  • Fast charging: €12 – €43
